Will the 2022 Ford Maverick Offer 4WD or AWD?
Our early look at the new 2022 Maverick proves that Ford Motor Company is not afraid of straying from convention. Unlike most Ford trucks, there will be no 4×4 version of the 2022 Ford Maverick. Instead, an optional Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system is available for those who want it. However, there is a caveat. Here, we look closer at how to get Intelligent AWD on the 2022 Ford Maverick, including compatible models.
Which 2022 Ford Maverick Models can get Intelligent AWD?
The 2022 Ford Maverick will have a standard hybrid powertrain or an optional 2.0-liter EcoBoost® gasoline engine. Intelligent All-Wheel Drive will be offered only on models with a gas engine. Trucks with the standard hybrid powertrain will not be compatible with Intelligent AWD at launch, but we’ll likely see the option added later.

Is the standard Ford Maverick FWD or RWD?
Contrary to traditional trucks, the 2022 Ford Maverick will come with front-wheel drive standard on both hybrid and non-hybrid models. This isn’t surprising, considering FWD models typically have a better fuel economy and emit less carbon dioxide. It also means better traction over snow.
