2020 Shelby GT500 Engine Performance

New to the Shelby GT500 for 2020 is a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 borrowed from the GT350 and enhanced for more power. Though Ford has kept lips sealed on topics of power ratings, the automaker has promised more than 700 horsepower. With that, we know that the 2020 model will nab the title of most powerful street-legal Ford from the 627-horsepower Ford GT and the previous 662-horsepower GT500.

In the name of performance, Ford has decided not to offer a manual transmission. Instead, the GT500 gets suited with an all-new dual-clutch seven-speed automatic transmission developed with Tremec.

Word has it the model will run the 0-60 sprint in less than 3 seconds and the quarter mile in under 11 seconds.

2020 Shelby GT500 Exterior

The Shelby GT500’s body structure was made new from the window forward in order to fit that massive V8 without having to add in a hood bulge. With a wider track, bigger tires and flared fenders, the front suspension also had to be altered from the base Mustang. Other design highlights found on this model include:

  • 20-inch Gloss Black flow-formed wheels
  • Michelin Pilot Sport 4S Tires
  • Aggressive front splitter and fascia
  • Functional hood vent

The 2020 model also adds some new paint options to the exterior color palette, including Grabber Lime, Iconic Silver, Red Hot Metallic and Twister Orange Metallic.

Carbon Fiber Handling Package

While the base-model GT500 promises to be the quickest in a straight line, the Carbon Fiber Handling Package will offer a model optimized for track duty. Some of the package’s enhancements include:

  • 20-inch carbon fiber wheels
  • Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 Tires
  • Wheel locking kit
  • Carbon fiber GT4 track wing
  • Adjustable strut top mounts
  • Splitter wickers
  • Rear seat delete
  • Carbon fiber instrument panel
  • RECARO leather-trimmed seats with Miko inserts
