For MY 2020, the automaker has condensed its sedan line to just two models: the Ford Fusion and the Ford Mustang. Ford has signaled that it will soon replace the Fusion with a new similarly sized crossover called the Ford Fusion Active. Don’t worry about losing the beloved pony car – the Ford Mustang is here to stay far into the foreseeable future.
Why Is Ford Dropping Its Sedans?
The basis for the sudden shift? Year over year, sedans continue to take a nosedive in sales. Experts speculate that the reason is a cross between low fuel prices and the creation of more fuel-efficient trucks and SUVs. Either way, with fewer sedan sales coming in, Ford decided it’s time to invest more in electric vehicles and fuel-efficient SUVs. Just this year we saw some new electric-powered options hit the market with the all-new 2020 Ford Escape Hybrid and 2020 Ford Explorer Hybrid. Next year, the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E will launch as Ford’s first all-electric crossover – named after the company’s iconic pony car, of course.
