Turning the Lane-Keeping System On/Off
To enable the Lane-Keeping System on your Ford vehicle, you’ll first want to press the “On/Off” switch located on the end of the left-hand stalk. Once turned on, the system will remain on for future vehicle starts until it is turned off.
Changing Lane-Keeping System Mode and Alert Intensity
Once the Lane-Keeping System has been activated, you can use the five-way control on the left-hand side of your steering wheel to adjust the system’s settings through the message center in your instrument panel.
Note: When the vehicle is turned on using MyKey, the Lane Keeping System will turn on automatically with “Alert Mode” selected.
To switch between modes, select “Driver Assist,” then “Lane Keeping System,” then “Mode.”
- Alert – Warns the driver with three short steering wheel vibration when unintentional lane drifting is detected.
- Aid – Applies steering torque to help direct your vehicle back into its lane when unintentional lane drifting is detected.
- Both – Enables both the Alert and Aid modes.
To adjust the strength of steering wheel vibrations while Alert mode is enabled, select “Driver Assist,” then “Lane Keeping System,” then “Alert Intensity.” The system offers three Alert Intensity settings:
- High
- Normal
- Low
Note that the lane-keeping system deactivates when the turn signal is engaged so it won’t interfere with intentional lane changing.
Lane-Keeping System Icon and Color Meanings
While driving the system will display a vehicle icon with lane markings in your vehicle’s instrument cluster. The color of the lines displayed communicates important information:
- Gray – The Lane-Keeping System is currently unable to operate.
Note: This could mean you are driving too slow to activate the system or that poor lane markings or weather conditions are preventing the system from functioning.
- Green – The Lane-Keeping System is functioning.
- Yellow – Aid mode has been triggered and corrective steering torque is being applied.
- Red – Alert mode has been triggered and vibrations are being sent to the steering wheel.

I have a 2019 Edge Titanium with the 301A package, includes the 360+co-Pilot package. I am a little confused about lane keep assist/alert. On the steering wheel is a button with a car with two parallel lines on it (button 1). Also at the end of the left-hand stalk is another button (button 2). It seems for button 1 to activate, cruise control has to be on, not so sure with button 2. With button 1 activated, the display shows a car with two parallel lines, that turn grey, then green, Lane Keep Aid seems to be active. Now I am not sure what button 2 does, other than it lights an additional little icon at the bottom of the left display, just to the right of the cruise control icon.
So what additional feature is turned on with button 2?
Is there a quick way to tell if the lane keep assist is in the aid, alert, or both mode?
Is the lane keeping technology included in the SEL Ford Edge 2016?
