We are willing to bet that by now you will have heard at least one PSA or seen one article on Facebook about the dangers of keeping a child or animal in a hot car for any amount of time, but this topic is so important we thought it deserved a little extra attention from all of us at Akins Ford.
Even though it may not seem like a long time, even 5 minutes in the sun in a hot, enclosed vehicle can be incredibly harmful.
Some drivers think that even though the windows are cracked, animals and children will be just fine, but that is also not the case. If you have to leave your child or animal unattended in your vehicle, make sure the air conditioning is on. This way there will be a somewhat stable temperature and a bit of airflow.
There have been a few different videos made where grown men try to sit in a vehicle for an extended period of time with the windows rolled up and the car off, and even these grown football players found the experience to be incredibly scary and difficult.
In fact, there is currently a law proposed that would make it illegal in Georgia to leave children unattended in a vehicle. Kids and animals can die from being left in a hot vehicle for too long, and this is an all-too-common tragedy that can easily be prevented.
