New Ford Mustang GT Drag Strip Mode Improves Performance in Four Key Ways
There are four main features of the new Drag Strip Mode that help the 2018 Ford Mustang GT go from zero to 60 miles per hour in less than four seconds – which is faster than the $94,000 Porsche 911 Carrera, by the way. Before we get to those, however, we have to spotlight the redesigned 5.0-liter V8 engine paired with an all-new available 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission that powers the new Ford Mustang GT by offering up to 460 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. And as for the new and improved Drag Strip Mode, it helps in four key areas – improving the horsepower and torque outputs, maximizing acceleration, optimizing shifting and optimizing traction.
“Typically, when you shift gears, you give up time. In Drag Strip mode, the engine torque doesn’t drop when you’re shifting. You get peak engine torque and horsepower straight through thanks to our new Ford-built 10-speed transmission.” – Carl Widmann, Mustang Chief Engineer
