Power Ratings of the All-New 7.3-liter V8 Gas Engine
The headliner of the 2020 Super Duty engine lineup is the all-new 7.3-liter V8 gas engine. Scoring best-in-class ratings of 430 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 475 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm, this is the V8 for those that refuse to settle.
Ford boasts the engine was designed for robust power, ease of service and maximum durability in the harshest environments. The hulking new V8 uses a variable-displacement oil pump, extra-large main bearings, forged steel crankshaft and piston cooling jets for better-enhanced temperature management under challenging conditions.
The V8 will be available on Ford F-250 and F-350 models paired with the 10-speed heavy-duty TorqShift® transmission. The all-new engine joins the lineup’s 6.2-liter V8 and 6.7-liter V8 diesel.
A dyno-certified version of the 7.3-liter V8 will be standard on the brawnier variants of the Heavy Duty lineup, including the F-450 chassis cab, F-550, the new F-600, F-650 and F-750 Medium Duty trucks, and F-53 and F-59 stripped chassis models. On these models, the V8 will offer 350 horsepower at 3,900 rpm and 468 lb-ft of torque at 3,900 rpm.
Other Engine Options on the 2020 Ford Super Duty F-250 and F-350
SOHC 6.2-liter V8 – Carried over from the previous model year, the SOHC 6.2-liter V8 remains the standard engine on the 2020 Ford Super Duty lineup. The engine will pair with a 6-speed automatic transmission on the F-250 and a 10-speed automatic on the F-350. Ford has kept tight lips on the specs of the 2020 variant, but we’re told to expect an upgrade from the 2019 version, which produced 385 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque.
6.7-liter Power Stroke Turbo Diesel – The legendary 6.7-liter Power Stroke Turbo Diesel also makes its return on the 2020 Super Duty, matching with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The diesel promises a boost in output from the previous model’s 450 horsepower and 935 lb-ft of torque.
