New F-150 safety innovations
The design team for the 2016 F-150 developed 31 new safety-related innovations. These include new structures designed to manage crash forces. New joining methods were tested using computer simulations. Laboratory re-testing was then used to create a truck that offers unprecedented safety ratings. According to Ford executive vice president of Global Product Development, Raj Nair, all told, Ford spent “thousands of hours engineering, designing and developing multiple safety features that work together in the event of an accident.”

In addition to the high overall rating, the 2016 Ford F-150 earned the highest possible score of “good” in the difficult small overlap front crash test. This test has been a bane for many vehicles in the past, and Ford set out with a plan to conquer it. The new F-150 utilizes specially designed wheel blockers and nylon hinge pillar reinforcements to help keep the driver and passengers safe if this kind of accident were to occur.
